Regardless of how you choose to use (or not use) AI, you should expect companies to disclose its role in the design process. It’s the bare minimum.
Yes, presenting AI designs as 100% human creativity is dishonest. But it’s so much more than that:
- It devalues the work of the human creatives in the quilting industry.
- It undermines decades of skilled techniques developed by real quilters
- It treats art, the most human pursuit, as nothing more than a mode of profit.

We demand that manufacturers and distributors of fabric, patterns and other creative goods in the quilting industry disclose their use of AI in creative processes.
What does that look like?
- Companies should develop (or update) & disclose internal validation procedures for original work.
- Work should be properly credited, whether human generated, AI generated, or a mix of both.
- If AI is involved, disclose exactly what it was used for.
