Undisclosed AI Use is a Threat to the Quilting Community

Regardless of how you choose to use (or not use) AI, you should expect companies to disclose its role in the design process. It’s the bare minimum.

Yes, presenting AI designs as 100% human creativity is dishonest. But it’s so much more than that:

“We will not pay designer fabric prices for fabric with no designer.”

Demand Transparency

We demand that manufacturers and distributors of fabric, patterns and other creative goods in the quilting industry disclose their use of AI in creative processes.

What does that look like?

That’s it, it’s really that easy.

Disclose AI use in fabric & pattern design

Dear quilting industry,

The community of quilters that supports your business demands transparency regarding AI use in fabric & pattern design. We urge you to do the following:

We demand that manufacturers and distributors of fabric, patterns and other creative goods in the quilting industry disclose their use of AI in creative processes.

What does that look like?

  • Companies should develop (or update) & disclose internal validation procedures for original work.
  • Work should be properly credited, whether human generated, AI generated, or a mix of both.
    • If AI is involved, disclose exactly what it was used for.

That’s it, it’s really that easy.

Failure to be honest & transparent is failure to protect your artists, consumers, and the stores that support you.
