About

Keep Quilting Human was founded in 2026, but has been in the works for several years. Ashlee Buller, the founder, owns a local quilt shop in Kalispell, MT. She has been concerned about the complete lack of disclosure of AI use by manufacturers, or even acknowledgement that it exists in the industry. She hoped it was just because AI was new, and the industry would respond in due course.

Unfortunately, the situation has only gotten worse. The January 2026 fabric release from a major fabric company includes an AI generated collection. Not only is it not disclosed, but it’s actively attributed to a human designer. This, in our view, is fraudulent.

So, despite not having time, organizing experience, or sponsors, Ashlee decided to do something about it. Keep Quilting Human was born. Thus far, all the expenses have been paid out of the pocket of her shop, but she thinks this issue is an existential threat to quilting as an industry and art form, so it’s money well spent.

The goal is to raise awareness among industry leaders that, at the bare minimum, consumers demand transparency in the supply chain. We also hope to spread awareness to shops, quilters, and crafters generally of the downsides of AI. Finally, we hope to highlight the major benefits for those who loudly and proudly Keep Quilting Human.

Hey, wanna support the movement? Support your local shop first, but if you don’t have one, or they’re missing something you’re after, consider shopping from Quilt Gallery. We’re currently eating all the expenses to support KQH, not to mention the time to run it. We’re happy to do it, but your patronage would be much appreciated :).
